Can I wear a jade bracelet while taking a shower or soaking in a hot spring? After reading this, you will know!

I often see friends asking whether it's okay to wear a jade bracelet while showering or soaking in hot springs. Some say yes, and some say no. Today, I will discuss when you can and cannot wear jade.

Two situations where wearing while showering is fine:

Natural jade is a type of nephrite, which has a relatively stable internal structure. Most people shower in water that isn’t too hot, so it won’t affect the jade bracelet at all. Therefore, it is fine to wear the bracelet while showering, and you can even clean and maintain the jade at the same time.

Aside from water temperature, what people worry about the most is whether shampoos and body washes will affect the jade. After all, to properly maintain jade, it's best to stay away from chemicals.

However, there's no need to worry, because while bathing products may have a certain pH, most are gentle and won’t corrode the jade. In reality, jade is not as fragile as people think; you just need to avoid soaking it in strong corrosive chemicals for extended periods.

Therefore, wearing jade while showering won’t impact the jade, but be careful not to bump it against walls or hard objects, which could cause it to break. So, jade enthusiasts should take care when showering!

If you’re still concerned about possibly damaging the jade, it’s perfectly fine to take it off while showering. Just be careful when putting on or taking off the bracelet to avoid dropping it; many enthusiasts accidentally break their bracelets while taking them off.

Some might wonder why there are cases of jade bracelets fading or changing color after showering if wearing jade while showering isn’t a problem.

This is because some of these bracelets are not made from natural jade; they are dyed jade using amino dyes or polishing powder, which can change color when exposed to hot water.

The surface of dyed jade has undergone chemical processing and is not stable; frequent exposure to hot water can lead to discoloration and affect its luster and transparency. For treated jade, it’s better to take it off while bathing.

So, the conclusion is that it is completely fine to wear natural A-grade jade while showering (barring any unforeseen circumstances). You can also make adjustments based on your jade style. If the piece is easy to take off, like a ring or pendant, then go ahead. If it’s not convenient to remove, it’s also okay to leave it on.

While Sleeping:

Most jade accessories can be worn while sleeping, such as regular bracelets and pendants, and wearing them close to your body for a long time can be nourishing.

However, if it’s a jade piece that’s been set with other materials, or if it’s very thin, it’s best to take it off while sleeping.

This is because set jade pieces often have sharp edges that could cause injuries. Moreover, moving around in your sleep can easily damage the jewelry.

Additionally, it’s not advised to wear overly tight jade bracelets while sleeping, as they can put pressure on your wrist and may impact your health. If you’re not used to wearing jewelry while sleeping, you can take off the jade beforehand.

Four situations where you shouldn’t wear jade:

  1. During strenuous exercise:
Although jade is a type of nephrite with strong toughness, it still needs careful maintenance. Therefore, it’s best to avoid intense exercise while wearing jade to prevent damage. Also, the increased sweating during exercise contains salts, volatile fatty acids, and urea, which can gradually erode the jade's surface, damaging its shine and luster.

  2. While cooking:
Many people wear jade bracelets while cooking, unaware that tiny oil particles can splatter everywhere. Over time, jade exposed to smoke and heat can become dull, and its vibrant color and texture may fade.

  3. At the beach:
Jade forms under conditions of low temperature and high pressure, and it doesn't withstand high temperatures very well. Thus, exposure to strong sunlight at the beach can damage jade. Additionally, seawater contains various salts, 70% of which is sodium chloride and 14% magnesium chloride, which can erode the jade’s surface, making it lose its former brilliance over time.

  4. While in a sauna or soaking in a hot spring:
The high temperatures in a sauna can enlarge the molecular structure of jade, changing its quality and causing it to lose moisture, resulting in a drier texture and lighter color.

Soaking in a hot spring has similar effects. The high-temperature spring water can damage jade, and it also contains some natural acids that can affect the jade over time.

Moreover, areas like saunas and hot springs often have wet floors, increasing the risk of slipping and breaking the bracelet. So, it’s best to take off your jade jewelry before going into the sauna or hot spring.

As the poetry goes, "If love is enduring, it matters not whether morning or night," the same applies to jade. To properly care for jade, you shouldn’t wear it when it's not appropriate; this way, jade can accompany you for a longer time.
